Youth Activities & Competitions

The Club works with local schools and youth groups in many ways. We run several Rotary competitions at a local, district & national level but these can be adapted in any way to suit the needs of the group.

The club works with a number of schools and youth groups locally. Some of the schools we have been working with are;  Aldridge, Barr Beacon, St Francis of Assisi, Streetly, Shire Oak, Cooper & Jordan, St Mary of the Angels, Rushall Primary, Delves Infant & Junior Schools, Holy Trinity Primary School

And some of the groups are;  Aldridge Fire Cadets, Streetly Scouts, Aldridge Youth Theatre

Every year members of the club work with secondary school to hold Mock Interviews for pupils.  The interviews provide pupils with the opportunity to answer questions and sell themselves to people they have never met before.  This is a really important skill for young people heading out into the world of work. Rotarians who are retired or have a bit of spare time work with the schools to offer this invaluable support.

We have worked in partnership with the Aldridge Fire Cadets on a number of events now, where they have supported us and we have been able to make donations to them - bag packing, carpark marshalling and our Youth Quiz.

The Aldridge Youth Theatre have entertained us very well with performances of fun murder mystery plays.

Some of the competitions we have been running recently are;

Young Musician

Making music is one of the most social of all activities. One of the greatest moments in any young musician’s development is the first time they learn to perform a solo piece. Performing solo helps to build self-esteem, self-confidence and teaches a great deal about the art of music.

This competition aims to offer;

An experience of performing on a public stage to showcase their musical talent

Impartial assessment of performance by experienced adjudicators.

Young Artist

This competition aims to encourage young people to express their ideas through any artistic medium, other than photography, using their artistic skill, imagination and creativity in response to the theme which changes annually.

Young Photographer

The digital camera has revolutionised the photographic world with instant results and the end of the concept that the camera never lies. As a talent, and an art form, Rotary GB&I celebrates the photographic skills of thousands of young people with a sequence of competitions that give them the chance to demonstrate and display just what they can produce.

Entrants are required to produce a portfolio of three photographs based upon a theme in colour, or black and white, on photographic paper. The individual entrants show their own imagination in the interpretation of the theme and he/she must provide, in no more than 50 words, details of the inspiration for their photographs.

Young Writer

This competition offers participants chance to express themselves and get creative with the written word.

After being given a theme, participants can choose to write fiction or non-fiction, a story or a poem. It’s a chance to be imaginative.

Young Chef

Fancy yourself as a budding cook?

The Rotary Young Chef competition, sponsored by Filippo Berio, gives entrants the chance to put their culinary skills to the test and be judged by leading industry professionals.

Entrants plan and cook a three course meal, develop their food presentation skills and gain experience in high pressure situations.

Whether you’re keen for a culinary career or just an enthusiastic home cook, this competition is a fantastic opportunity.

Youth Speaks

Challenge your public speaking abilities and perform, persuade and entertain the audience with your display of wit and knowledge of a topic.

In teams of three participants present arguments and points of discussion, before taking questions from the judging panel who are, themselves, skilled orators.

Participants can select a topic which is important to them, giving them an opportunity to delve deep into research, formulate ideas and build confidence.
