Crocus Planting at Budgens, Langford

The Crocus is a flower which symbolises the story of the Polio eradication programme. It allows that story to be told in a way that the general public can identify with and share, and it puts Rotary at the heart of that story. The Crocus was chosen as the purple colour matched the dye painted on the little fingers of children to show that they have been immunised. The Crocuses are attached to information cards which tell the story of Polio, the eradication programme and Rotary’s pivotal role. When people wear the crocus they become walking adverts triggering countless conversations. The information card gives the wearer of the crocus the 30 second answer to the question 'that’s a nice flower, what's it for?’
