Jubilee Sailing Trust

Thanks to the support of the Rotary Club of Wrington Vale 2 young people from Ravenswood School, Nailsea were able to enjoy the experience of a lifetime. 

Davida Santos and Stephanie Peek spent five days as part of the crew of the three masted tall ship "Tenacious", on one of the sail training ships owned by The Jubilee Sailing Trust.  During the trip they took part in all the ship's duties including climbing the rigging for sail adjustment;  scrubbing decks;  polishing brasses;  cooking and washing;  and, not to be forgotten, night watch from 11.00pm to 4.00 am   -   and many other activities.

The journey took them from Southampton to the French Coast via the Isle of Wight before sailing along the English Channel to Dover past the famous White Cliffs.  They were supported on the trip by a professional crew, volunteer "buddies" and medical staff to ensure their safety.

This exciting opportunity is a favourite part of the Rotary Club's Youth Programme and we always look to identify young people with disabilities to take part.  This year we were also supported by a grant from the, Bristol based, Underprivileged Children's Charity and this enabled us to provide 2 places. 

Both girls thanked the Rotary Club for the kindness and support in making this wonderful trip a 'never to be forgotten' fantastic adventure.  Our photograph shows them on the quayside by the "Tenacious"
