Westbury Rotary Club played Taunton Vale in the District 1200 skittles Final.
We have had a remarkable season, beating all and sundry up to the Final in Ilchester
We wanted to emulate all the disparate UK athletics teams and the Lionesses in their recent successes, however it wasn't to be!
We were beaten on the day by a better team of skittlers. The scores are lost in the annals of history but as we were only beaten by approximately 0.5 pins per player per leg, a brave effort nonetheless. Our player of the year (I have just invented the title) is Alex, a consistent player who skittles with verve and style beyond his tender years. The rest of the team are humbled before him.
Taunton Vale are worthy Champions and are to be congratulated, even though Richard runs the length of the alley when skittling! They made the evening an enjoyable one and were gracious winners indeed.
We tried to book Wembley for the final but it was fully booked and rather expensive too. Their skittle alley was not up, to our standards either.
All credit to Rotarian Alan Bull for guiding us through the season with skill and gentle coaching, he also coaches some Rotarians in Lawn and Indoor Bowls.
