Boules at the Palace

Held annually in the Bishop's Palace gardens in the centre of Wells, the Wells Charity Boules Tournament is a fun event for all of the family.

In 2000 Rotarians from Wells trekked out to a remote area in North Nepal to build a health clinic. They came up with the idea of holding an annual Boules Tournament to support the clinic and the rest is history.

In year 2000 Rotarians from Wells trekked out to a remote area in North West Nepal to help the Nepal Trust build a health clinic. They came up with the idea of holding an annual Boules Tournament to raise funds to support the clinic.

Over £100,000 has been raised by the tournament in support of both the Nepal Trust and other local charities.

In 2022 the tornament focused on supporting Heads Up, a mental health charity based in West Horrington just outside Wells.

In 2023 despite the rain16 teams battled it out regailed by the soothing sounds of the Panama Jazz band but sadlty this year's Tournament held in June was the last. Once again the Panama Jazz band jpined us and everyone had a great time getting together with family and friends for a picnic and a friendly game of Boules: the sun even shined for part of the day!! The funds raised from both events were used to support community projects in and around the Wells area.

Post event we were advised by the Bishops Palace that they no longer wished the grounds to be used for the event as it "added little to the visitors' experience".
