Rtn Wendy Patrick from ‘across the pond’ gave a thought provoking presentation to 17 Taunton Club members and Mo Hodges of Inner Wheel. The title ‘The Bonding Power of Social Distancing’ and illustrated presentation gave many insights into the impact of Social Distancing on the many facets of life. Focus was given to ‘what we miss’, ‘why and the power of proximity. Collective Effervescence, the sense of connection that comes from collective events was highlighted. In short Wendy made the case for the need for the human race to have social interaction and the desire to be together. This culminated in the words ‘The perfect pint is shared with others’ and a general acceptance that things will move forward to a new normal. Vote of thanks was given by Jonny Dunk who commented on the broad range of our speaker’s life experience as a prosecutor, broadcaster, author and musician.
Henry gave an update on the members of the Club who were unwell, indicating that all were moving in the right direction. He also advised that Terry and Elaine Waymouth’s son’s father-in-law was extremely unwell, and family had come over from Seattle. In consequence focus was upon the opportunity to see grandchildren and give support where they could so Terry was likely to miss a few meetings in the months ahead.
