42 members attended at the Cricket Club to hear
Cate Whitewood (I.P.P. RC Yeo Vale) talk about the District 1200 Ugandan Water
Project which works with the Busoga Trust. The main work of the Trust is to
repair existing wells and boreholes in rural Uganda. Wherever possible they use
local labour which keeps costs down and encourages ownership of the project.
the average cost is £1,000 per well which helps 3 to 4 hundred people get clean
water and appropriate hygiene education. Cate presented it as a choice between
clean or dirty water, though clearly the 'choice' is for the donors rather than
the villagers.
