Taunton Rotarians partner with Pyrland School to help pupils with new Revision Club
Members of the Rotary Club of Taunton welcomed Mr Matt Bernard, Deputy Headteacher of Pyrland School, to share an update about plans to benefit academic outcomes for pupils.
As part of its centenary celebrations in 2022 the Club established a charitable fund to help young people in the town and this year’s President, Adrian Prior-Sankey, announced that the first grant from the endowment will benefit the new after-school Revision Club.
Adrian is a former pupil of one of the schools that subsequently combined to become Pyrland and spoke passionately about the partnership with Rotary,
‘Rotarians were impressed by the efforts of the school’s senior leadership to explore attractive ways to help all pupils, but especially those with disadvantages, to prepare for exams that are so significant for life chances. I am thrilled that our first grant will enable refreshments and revision guides to be provided to each student who participates.’
In response to Matt’s uplifting account of the positive developments at the school, club members who have a wealth of experience in commerce and vocational roles are also exploring ways in which they can assist with work experience placements and mock interviews to help young people prepare for the world of employment.
