The spirit of enterprise was alive and thriving at Wellington Prep School recently, as Year 5 pupils rose to the Rotary Club of Taunton £5 Challenge with enthusiasm, ingenuity, and a strong sense of purpose. Partnering with the Rotary Club of Taunton, the challenge encouraged pupils to turn a £5 investment into as much money as possible for a good cause — and the results were truly inspiring.
With creativity in full flow, the children transformed their seed money into a remarkable total of £982.48, all raised in support of the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children — a charity chosen by the pupils themselves. From delicious homemade cakes and colourful crafts, to mindfulness products, monster-themed rock art and even fresh eggs, the range of entrepreneurial ventures was as diverse as it was impressive.
Rotary Club President Tracey Khodabandehloo and Youth Opportunities Lead Sally Nystrom attended the school for the final presentations and awards. They were treated to engaging pitches from the pupils, who proudly showcased their products, profits, and the stories behind their ventures.
Speaking to the school assembly, President Tracey shared insights into the global mission of Rotary and its guiding motto, “Service Above Self.” She praised the young entrepreneurs for their dedication and imagination:
“It was a joy to see how everyone embraced the challenge. The creativity, teamwork and heart that went into these projects is something the whole community can be proud of.”
This meaningful collaboration between Rotary and Wellington Prep School not only raised valuable funds for a worthy cause but also empowered young minds with real-world skills — entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and the joy of giving back.
Rotary is proud to support opportunities that inspire the next generation — and with young leaders like these, the future looks bright indeed.
