Pride of Somerset Youth Awards 2024

The Pride of Somerset Youth Awards 2024, hosted this year by Bridgewater and Taunton College, were held at the McMillan Theatre in Bridgwater, a beautifully presented venue that set the stage for a truly memorable evening. The setting provided the perfect backdrop to celebrate the achievements of inspirational young people from across Somerset.

The award ceremony was a humbling and uplifting event, recognising young individuals for their exceptional contributions in so many areas. Awards were given to those involved in charity work, fundraising, community projects, overcoming personal tragedies, supporting positive mental health, and displaying acts of kindness in the most challenging of circumstances. The stories of these young people were both moving and inspiring, highlighting their resilience and dedication to making a positive impact on their communities.

Tracey Khodabandehloo, president-elect of The Rotary Club of Taunton, presented the Arts and Culture Award on behalf of the club. Tracey is shown in the photos presenting the awards in this category to winner Ernie Shorten an incredible dancer in Porlock performance company Stacked Wonky and Highly Commended awards to Dulcie Catton and Jasmine Bragg. Throughout the evening, the Rotary Club of Taunton was frequently referred to and acknowledged as the founder of this magnificent event, underscoring the club's ongoing commitment to supporting and recognising the achievements of young people in Somerset.

High Sheriff, Rob Buckley concluded the proceedings with a heartfelt appreciation to the Awards organisers at Bridgwater and Taunton College, Simon Parkin from BBC Radio Somerset, award sponsors, the  judges and the participants.

The evening was a wonderful celebration of youth and community spirit, leaving attendees with a profound sense of admiration and hope for the future. The Pride of Somerset Youth Awards 2024 not only honoured remarkable young individuals but also brought together community leaders and supporters to celebrate the positive impact these young people have made. The event concluded with a shared sense of pride and optimism, making it a night to remember for all who attended.
