The Rotary Club of Taunton celebrated its centenary in 2022-23. Under the leadership of our new President Tracey Khodabandehloo we will continue to work with, within and for the community to serve others and strive to create a better world.
We have 35 members who meet regularly and work hard on projects and initiatives to support our community. We are part of an international network of Clubs across the globe and this means we also contribute to major international initiatives such as the eradication of Polio and Malaria, the supply of clean water and emergency response to disasters. Indeed in many cases the International Rotary organisation has initiated these global activities.
This year our main charity will be the League of Friends for Musgrove Park Hospital and, with an international dimension, we will also be supporting the Yeovil based charity 'School in a Bag'
Locally we believe we make a difference to many local organisations by supporting them with fundraising activities, donations and help.
We promote and run a range of competitions and activities for young people . These vary from year to year, but include national competitions known as Young Chef, Youth Speaks, Young Musician, Young Writer and Young Photographer. We connect with schools and youth organisations. We promote enterprise in the young and encourage their contribution to life in our community.
We are especially proud to celebrate the achievements of young people and support the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards. An event which our Club initiated and which is a standing part of the Somerset Day Calendar and now organised by Bridgewater and Taunton College.
The reason we have been around for a long-time and the key behind our sustainability lies in our commitment to building fellowship between members, our families and friends. We have fun, hold events and support each other. That's why our motto is 'Service above Self'. We welcome new members and especially those who reflect the wide diversity of our community. If you want to join with like minded people and play a role in your community and are interested in becoming a member or maybe just finding out more about what we do then make contact. We'd love to hear from you.
