The Rotary Club of Lyme Regis runs a number of major events in the town, with the purpose of raising funds for good causes whilst having a great deal of fun. In most of these we work closely with other community groups.
Projects that we manage include:
Carols Round the Christmas Tree - for over 60 years Rotary has run this event in Broad Street just before Christmas. Up to 1000 people join us in singing popular carols, with music provided by the Lyme Regis Town Band.
Christmas Collection - a collection in Broad Street and in Charmouth. Normally the beneficiary is a children's charity, chosen by our President.
The Lyme Lunge - a fancy dress dip in the balmy waters of Lyme Bay, with funds raised by sponsorship and by collection. In 2024 over 1000 "Lungers" took part, cheered on by 6-7000 joyous spectators.
Soup and Ploughman's - takes place in the Alexandra Hotel in early February by generous permission and support of the owner. Traditionally the beneficiary is an international charity, with the Rtary Charity Water Survival Box featuring in recent years.
Candles on the Cobb - perhaps the biggest single event in the Lyme Regis Calendar, Rotary took over the running of this event in 2019, and plans to hold it every three years. In 2022 we were supported by over 250 members of other organisations in the town.
We also assist other organisations in the town with marshalling and collecting at events, running stalls at fairs, marshalling at flu vaccination events, working in a Memory Cafe etc.
