Rotary is not just about fund-raising, there is a strong social and sporting aspect. Some of the many activities are listed below.

|
Presidents Barbecue
Normally held in May, this is a relaxed afternoon/evening of enjoying good food, good company and perhaps even a little to drink. Normally open to guests of members too. |
The Ternan Times
Our very own, award-winning publication that chronicles events in the life of the club and its members.Copies of past issues are archived on this wesbite. As of May 2014 the Ternan Times ceased publication - news will now be posted on our Facebook page. |
Golf
Several of our members are golfers and play in Rotary competitions both locally and in other parts of Scotland. |
Walking
Keen walkers form the Last of the summer wine group who meet weekly during the summer months and explore the many local walking routes. |
Gavel Competition
This is an inter-Rotary sporting challenge that depends more on a mis-spent youth than athletic skill. It involves darts, bowling, deck quiots, snooker and a range of other sports. Our club has won through to the final in 2014 and has made the semi-finals on a number of occasions. |
Curling
The club currently fields a single team of 4 players who play in the Rotary provincial league and are based at Curl Aberdeen, one of the newest and possibly one of the best curling facilities in the world. |
Burns Night
As Scotlands national bard, Rabbie Burns is celebrated with haggis, chappit neeps and skirlie. The usual speeches are given and whisky is enjoyed. |
Christmas Dinner
On the last Wednesday before Christmas, this is an evening to which partners are invited. All the normal Christmas fare and razz-mataz is present and Santa always makes a star appearance. |
Charter Dinners
Rotary clubs are proud of their hertiage and like to mark anniversaries of their founding with a big formal party called a 'Charter Dinner' and lots of long speeches!
|
Photographic Club
Several members of our club have formed a photographic interest group in order to share knowledge and experience. This section meets every few weeks after the main club meeting.
|
Twinning Exchange Visits
Our club is twinned with Vestby Rotary Club in Norway and Castlemaine Rotary Club in Australia. Every two years there is a reciprocal visit of members with the Vestby Club.
|
Quaich Suppers
There is an ongoing round-robin of dinners which are hosted in members' homes. This gives members and their families the opportunity to meet and socialise over a meal.
|
Social Weekends
Over the years, several 'away weekends' have been organised to locations in Scotland. The last one was to Grantown-on-Spey.
|
Industrial Visits
Approximately twice a year, members of the club visit local businesses to gain an insight into the local economy. Visits have included - Guide Dogs for the Blind, Invercanny Waterworks, Banchory Energy Centre, Bristows Helicopters, Shell UK
|
Fishing
Thanks to the generosity of local fishing owners, members are able to enjoy fishing on the River Dee, one of Scotland's top salmon fishing rivers. Days between June and August are available. Other days are also available through the club on a pay basis with proceeds going to Rotary Charities.
