In the presence of the Mayor of Bridport, Cllr Anne Rickard, and District Governor, Mike Kew, Club members, partners and guests enjoyed a very pleasant evening at the Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club.
The poem below, written by our Poet-Rotoreate Phil, describes the evening perfectly!
A “magic” President’s Night
The start of events - a beautiful supper
Two or three courses and a piping hot cuppa
Conjured up by the staff in the kitchen
To set the theme for “a night with magician”
After the meal there were things to be said
Everyone listening now they’d been fed
“Thank you for coming Rotarians and guests
And a magic Mayoral appearance at Bridport’s behest.
Now for your enjoyment without further ado
With no expense spared we bring unto you
Yes there’s no illusion, you all know him well
The Great Foolini who casts no lasting spell!
Councillors and Presidents stood all in a row
Numbers on the floor placed down below
There are five to choose from but which one is white?
Right on “Kew” Foolini got it right.
A puzzling cube of red, green and blue
And yellow and white and orange too
You’ll never solve it in your short lifespan
But wait a second and Foolini can!
With a deck of fifty-two he created illusion
Rotarian certainty became wonder and confusion
With a flick of the wrist and a sleight of hand
An outcome we still can’t understand.
Now back to reality and the year ahead
There’s many more projects to be put to bed
Recruitment’s a priority please remember
Oh! How about Foolini, he’d be a good member.
