On a beautiful sunny spring evening in the Bridport United Church a packed audience enjoyed an evening of musical entertainment organised by the Rotary Club of Bridport. The event featured the talented Dorset Police Male Voice Choir led by Musical Director David Marshall with Accompanist Sue Stein and the Taunton Deane Male voice Choir led by Musical Director Nick Thomas with Accompanist Mike Wager.
Club President, Mike Green welcomed everyone present. He explained that proceeds from the event would be divided equally between the RNLI and other local charities who, from time to time, approach our club for assistance. He added that collection buckets were available for donations to support the ShelterBox Myanmar and Thailand Earthquake Appeal. Whatever was collected would be added to by the Club to help those unfortunate victims of this terrible disaster.
The Dorset Police Male Voice Choir opened the evening with four songs; African Prayer; You Raise me Up; At the end of the Day and Stars from les Miserables and Angus Dei.
The Taunton Male Voice Choir followed with; Gloria, from the 12th Mass; Away with the Roll of the Sea; Bui Doi from Miss Saigon and Rachie. The two Choirs then combined for The Rhythm of Life.
After the interval the Taunton Deane Choir sang; Requiem for a Soldier; Bring him Home; How Great Thou Art and Perfect Male Voice Choir.
The Dorset Police Choir followed with; Anvil Chorus; I Write the Songs; There is Nothing Like a Dame and Anthem from Chess.
The evening concluded with a joint item; An American Trilogy and, finally, in response to enthusiastic cries of 'More! More!' the encore ended the evening with Let it be Me and Gwahoddiad.
An excellent programme performed with enthusiasm by the very talented choristers and musicians and which catered for a wide range of musical tastes,.
Guests of Honour were the Chair of the Weymouth Lifeboat Foundraising Committee, Teresa Drage and her colleague Anne Crabb. Teresa commented, 'What a great evening, great music and a great audience'. She also thanked the Rotary Club of Bridport for organising this fundraising event and supporting the RNLI.
