In spite of the gloomy forecast, Saturday 18 November although grey and overcast was mainly dry and mild which proved to be ideal for our first day of selling of our Christmas hyacinths. In all, some 77 pots were sold with the blue bulbs once again proving to be most popular.
It was good to be on the streets of Bridport once again and to meet old friends, returning customers and new faces too.
We chatted to many, like the lady who moved to Bridport 9 years ago and buys blue bulbs every year. Once the flowers die back she plants them in her front garden and now has a lovely display each spring. Our bulbs are not just for Christmas!
The Rotarian from Northampton and his wife who were in the area for a few days. We were able to compare notes and discover that our two clubs are not dissimilar!
A very pleasant and enjoyable morning for all who took part.
PP Colin, project organiser, said "Thank you all for your help today, the whole process went very smoothly including the free hot sausage rolls from Framptons at 9:00am. Once again we were helped by Paul Violet of the Town Council and a Rotary friend. The weather forecasts for next Wednesday and Saturday are for a drop in temperature but dry, so with luck we will have cleared the production costs, by next week and it will then be all positive income!"
