Hyacinth Sales - A New Record!

Saturday 3 December was a Very Good Day!

On a cold but pleasant December morning just three weeks before Christmas Bridport Rotary Club was selling Christmas Hyacinths at three sites; Bucky-Doo Square in Bridport, Beaminster Square and Felicity's Farm Shop in Morcombelake.

When the first shift of Mike Green and Bernard Paull arrived at Bucky-Doo at  about 8.45am, David Weston and Ivor Bending had already delivered the bulbs, gazebo and tables. From the outset, sales were brisk and by the time the second shift of Elizabeth Gale and Martin Whiting arrived the stock was beginning to look depleted. Bu the end of the morning 110 pots had been sold in friendly competition with Salwayash School and their delicious array of cakes and goodies on one side and Santa Claus from the Brit Valley Rotary Club on the other.

President Colin Bowditch said "It must have been a record day because at the three sites some 170 pots were sold! Clive Bath and Roger Pollock sold out in Beaminster and 22 were sold at Felicity's Farm Shop, a first trial there. The two Rotary Friends on duty there were well received, offered coffee and the chance to pop into the shop to warm up. They were there 2.5 hours, well done Pat and Judy."

The whole operation was overseen by President Colin who, somehow, managed to fit in a visit by Zoom to the Rotary District 1200 Forum between dashing between sites.

Bulbs are also available at Burton Bradstock and Chideock Post Offices. The remaining bulbs, and there are not many, will be on sale on our stall on Buck-Doo Square on the evening of Wednesday 7 December for Christmas Cheer.

And finally, we will be outside Morrisons in Bridport on Saturday 10 December for, hopefully, our final day of selling.

We really appreciate the support of everyone who has bought hyacinths and the local shops who have sold them for us or allowed us to have a stall on their premises. Thanks to you all for helping us to raise money for needy causes specifically, on this occasion, the St Mary’s Church Warm Spaces Initiative, the Macular Eyesight Society and local youth projects.
