The Nepal Flood Disaster

In response to the destruction and suffering caused by the flash floods and landslides in Nepal, our Club's immediate reaction was to donate £600 to Shelterbox and to follow this with a collection on the streets of Bridport on a Saturday morning when the market was in full swing.

The pictures show some of the team in action but do not include Chrissie Bailey, Colin Bowditch and Brian Evans who either took the pictures or managed to dodge the photographers!   

On Saturday 12 September, the weather was kind, the town busy and the people of Bridport displayed their usual generosity. Several contributors had been to Nepal and stopped to share their knowledge and experience with us.

The collection, including a contribution of £50 from the Somerset & Dorset Family History Society in appreciation of a talk by one of our members, came to well over £400. With the help of gift aid, some £500 will go to those suffering from the disaster. A satisfying achievement in such a short time.

This shows that there is a compassionate body of people in Bridport willing to give so generously in times of need. It is pleasing that our Club can provide the means whereby they can give that help.
