PRESTON SOUTH ROTARY CLUB
The Preston South Rotary Club was formed in 1967 and in May 2024 had 29 members. We have a range of ages and professional and working backgrounds which give us a well balanced Club.
We have a regular Tuesday lunchtime meeting fortnightly at Penwortham Golf Club. Occasionally we have a speaker to entertain us.
In the past our major fund raising has come from an Annual Steam Rally, Sports and Comedy evening, Garden Party and Charity Golf Day, as well as can rattling at local stores. On average we raise some £20,000 each year. We generally support St Catherine's Hospice as well as numerous other local and international charities.
We also work with 3 local primary schools with their respective RotaKids Clubs, and help to support a Kids Day Out for Moor Hey School.
But its not all hard work and the Club likes to have some fun through celebrating our Charternight (annual celebration of receiving our charter),
Preston South also competes in the various Rotary sporting competitions for golf, snooker, “grey games” (putting, darts, dominos!) and dare we say it but we generally win.
In October 2020 over 2 weeks the Club Members undertook a Virtual Walk to the Algarve (1750 miles!) to raise funds for St Catherine's Hospice. (See the Club's Facebook page).
In 2021/2 the "Dreaded" Virus put paid to all Club Activities.
However, we are now back on track. In May 2024 we held a very successful football competition for 34 boys and girls teams that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
The Club has great people who gain great satisfaction from helping others as well as having fun. All reasons why you should consider joining Rotary and our Club.
