Rotary of Poulton le Fylde have been creating the Talking Newspaper for over 40 years since it started . The club was one of the original teams undertaking this service for the community. The members are on a rota system to read from the Gazette every 6 weeks on a Tuesday evening. We read from Friday’s, Saturday’s and Monday’s paper.
It involves one of the members 'doing the technical bit' i.e. manning the computer console whilst 3 readers, each taking one of the days and reading articles that they choose and believe would benefit the listeners e.g. whatever takes their interest. They read for 2x10 minutes each.
All this takes place at N-Vision's Princess Alexandra Home at South Shore, that specialises in residential care for the visually impaired and prides itself on the quality of support and service it provides for its customers. Once we have done our bit all the recordings are put together from Lancashire Life and other publications and sent out electronically to all their customers, from a wider area and who all have sight limitations.
