On 24th July 2014 our District Governor Roger Mason came to visit to our club.
Roger is a member of Garstang and Over Wyre Rotary Club and, having never been to us before, finally managed to find Brockwood Hall, but then had huge problems getting home as the southbound M6 was closed.
District Governor Roger presented our President Elect Ray Cole with his jewel and later addressed the club.
Roger's talk covered a wide range of Rotary topics in a down to earth way which showed us that he is in touch with Rotary at club level. He told us of his enthusiasm for the Rotary Foundation and the help it gives to Rotarians to support their humanitarian projects and of the need for continuing support of the Polio Plus programme. He also spoke of the need to increase membership and what the District can do to help clubs.
Roger stressed his enthusiasm for the Aquabox charity. This is one that we had already agreed to support this year. It is still very much a Rotary Charity and is run by the Rotary Club of Wirksworth in Derbyshire.
Our International Service chairman Keith Nixon presented District Governor Roger with a cheque from our charity account to pay for 2 Aquaboxes. Also from our charity account, with a generous boost from Arthur Ferguson, we were able to present DG Roger and his wife Mary with around 30 new babygrows for babies up to 12 months old. Clothes for babies are items which are urgently needed for Aquaboxes.
