The Mayor of South Ribble, Councillor Paul Wharton-Hardman BEM and Leyland Heartbeat user, Bob Fitchie, got the Cycle Challenge off to a flying start and were followed by another 19 riders, including Rotary's District Governor, John Edwards, who jumped on the bikes at Leyland Leisure Centre to help us raise vital funds for local charity Heartbeat NWCC.
Leyland Rotary's Rotaduck was in attendance and getting into mischief at the bucket collection at Tesco, along with Heartbeat's mascot who was helping shoppers celebrate St Valentine's Day. The photos illustrate how much fun everyone had whilst helping the community of Lancashire.
The Just Giving page will remain open for a while yet so there's still time to swell the fund, plus raffle tickets are on sale at Heartbeat centres across Lancashire with the draw taking place at their Deepdale HQ at noon on Monday 16 March 2026. Prize list below.
Thanks must go to Leyland Leisure Centre and Tesco Leyland for allowing us to run this event; to Jane from Friends of Leyland Station for selling raffle tickets on the day; and to all the riders who put so much effort into making sure we hit the 75 miles on both bikes. A special thanks must go to Dave Williams, who suffered a heart attack four years ago and used Heartbeat's services during his recovery and rehabilitation. Dave put in a massive three hours on one of the bikes and was on hand all day helping and encouraging everyone along the way.
