ROTARY YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER & YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITIONS

Congratulations to Lostock Hall Academy for their success in the Cumbria and Lancashire Young Photographer and Young Artist competitions.

President Sue and other members of Leyland Rotary were warmly welcomed when they visited Lostock Hall Academy to present prizes and certificates to two pupils who had been successful in the Rotary Young Photographer and Rotary Young Artist competitions in Cumbria and Lancashire.  The theme of the competitions was ‘Wonderful Water’.

Laurie Taylor, aged 13, was thrilled and surprised to have won the Young Photographer with a photograph of a tree branch dripping with dew, taken on her mobile phone in the family garden.  Her surprise was doubled when she learned her entry in the Young Artist competition had been highly commended.

Laurie’s classmate, Peggy Hands, was delighted when she also achieved highly commended in the Young Artist category.

What Laurie and Peggy didn’t know until the presentations took place was that there was a monetary value to their success, so their smiles widened when they received the Amazon vouchers!

The staff at Lostock Hall Academy expressed their appreciation of the Rotary youth competitions and feel that the success of Laurie and Peggy will encourage more students to participate next year, not only in the Photographer and Artist categories but also in other Rotary competitions.
