WHO DO WE SUPPORT LOCALLY?
These are some of the local projects we are involved in.
Rotary in Leyland started in 1953 and has helped many local charities and good causes by raising money and in other ways:
Locally:
Annual Charity Duck Race and Santa 'shake-a-can' collections - providing fun and entertainment whilst raising funds for selected local charities. Go to our Links page for further information.
Environmental Projects - we have collaborated with two other local Rotary Clubs to plant trees at St Catherine's Park.
Leyland Barracudas Swimming Club - by sponsoring a poolside volunteer to gain accredited qualifications. For further information, click on 'More' - 'Links and News'
Leyland Festival - providing support to the Festival Committee in enabling this popular annual event to take place. For further information, click on 'More' - 'Links and News'
Wrap-Up Lancashire - by collecting, sorting and distributing unwanted warm clothing to people in crisis. For further information, click on 'More' - 'Links and News'
Leyland Foodbank - in collaboration with Leyland "Churches Together' and local supermarkets, providing physical and financial support to the foodbank.
Young People - through various Rotary programmes and competitions such as 'Youth Speaks' which is designed to improve the public speaking abilities of pupiles from our local schools and colleges, and one day 'Technology Tournament' events for multiple teams of four students to collectively design, build and test their solution to a previously unseen technology task. Pitch4Pounds - this initiative has supported numerous local charities and organisations by providing financial assistance for specific projects.

RED ROSETTES LADIES’ CHOIR
more Leyland Rotary is delighted to be able to support Leyland-based, award-winning ladies’ show choir, the Red Rosettes, as they represent the UK at a competition in Sweden in May 2025. President Jim went along to meet them and present them with a donation.

more President Jim was delighted to visit one of the successful Pitch4Pounds good causes to see the enjoyment Rotary’s donation has provided.
Books4Kids at LEYLAND FESTIVAL
more We handed out lots of free books to children at Leyland Festival, all of which had been donated by the local community. This is just a small part of Leyland Rotary’s voluntary activities.
Lancashire Mind - helping the community
more Anyone can experience a mental health condition at any time. Leyland Rotary members were delighted to present Emma Bateson of Lancashire Mind with a donation for life-changing support to adults and young people.
SLEAP - support and lodgings for young people
more Outgoing President Jim was delighted to present a cheque to Stela Stansfield, CEO of SLEAP. Jim chose SLEAP as his charity in recognition of their valuable work with young people in the local area.
PITCH4POUNDS - INFINITY DANCE AND CHEER
more Leyland Rotary is delighted to have been able to provide financial support to Infinity Cheer and Dance to assist in their work with children and young people.
PITCH4POUNDS - THE ‘FRIDAY GUYS’
more President Jim went along to meet the ‘Friday Guys’ at St Mary’s Community Centre, a group Leyland Rotary is pleased to have helped secure their future.
PITCH4POUNDS - BANNISTER BROOK HOUSE
more Provision of a bingo machine, dabbers and bingo tickets to encourage greater social interaction between residents of this supported living accommodation.
Linking Leyland
more Leyland Rotary joined numerous other businesses to help raise a magnificent £14,000 for local cancer charities - St Catherine's Hospice, Rosemere Cancer Foundation, and Macmillan Cancer Care.
PITCH4POUNDS - LEYLAND IN BLOOM
more Leyland Rotary was delighted to award Leyland in Bloom funds to purchase farmyard manure and mulch to enable them to enrich the soil at the entrance to Leyland Railway Station.

more 2,095 coats distributed to 16 charities throughout central Lancashire (a 98% increase on last year). A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED UNWANTED COATS. You’ve made a real difference to your community.
