Our speakers highlighted the work that the group did with young people and included various projects including providing a mountain first aid course; Carrying a dark Vigil in aid of the motor neurone disease where the group slept in complete darkness for 14 hours in a cave and then a 10km walk back to their pick up point which raised £500.
An Easter expidition to the Isle of Skye where the group battled gales force wind and snow and dramatically resulted in part of the group being rescued from Mount Hedra after being caught in the storm. The expidition ended with a run up "Glamaig" a small hill measuring 2543 feet in height.
The group have also been to Anglesey Kayaking and maintianing the woodlands at Snow Height planting oak saplings. The group have raised enough money to purchase three shelter boxes which were sent to Nepal. Lauren expalined how she raises money at her school by selling bags of sweets for a £1. The school also organised a non uniform day where it raised £600 for the group.
The talk ended with details of the group's next expidition to Brittany surveying ancient sites of interest. Kirkham Rotary were proud to present a cheque for £1000 to further enable The Windmill Group to help young people.
Rotarian PP Paul Leeson gave the vote of thanks and mentioned the clubs visit to the group on the 18th April of this year. Paul echoed all our thoughts by commenting that the speakers had given alot of themselves into the project and thanked them for the work that they do.
