Information & Rules for Sports – 2015-16 (at 12th July 2015)

Rules applying to all sports:
1. Sports evenings are for fun and fellowship, and can attract new and younger members.
2. The first named club is the “home team”, organises the date & venue in liaison with the other club
in good time and informs the District Sports officer of the result a.s.a.p. after the event.
3.
N.B. If you are not the host club you should make contact with the host club as soon as possible to start the dialogue to arrange the match. Please do not wait to be contacted by the host club.
4. Teams arriving with fewer than the required number of players will forfeit those games unless agreed otherwise by both clubs, preferably beforehand.
5. Costs of venue and refreshments - if any - are shared between the two clubs.
6. If the sport is not played within the allotted time period then the away team is the ‘winner’ unless they have already conceded or have not co-operated.
7. If two clubs are having genuine difficulties playing a sport within the allotted time period the home club should contact the District Sports Officer to negotiate a specific period of extra time prior to the end of the allotted time period. Only one period of extra time will be allowed.
8. The rules below may be modified during heats by agreement between the two teams to suit particular circumstances. In the event of a disagreement between the teams the rules below must be adhered to.

1. Ten Pin Bowling – September-May

Teams of 5 players. Ideally use two lanes, one for each team. (This enables you to easily see who has won!!)
Practice game optional according to time the lanes are available. Highest total score of all 5 players in one game (or the number turning up to play) wins. If both teams agree and the lanes are booked for long enough the total of two games can decide the winner. If not, then just one game is played. If a draw the highest number of strikes determines the winner. If any team turns up with less than 5 players they will play their opponents’ full team. E.g. 4 players' scores are totalled against a total of 5 for the other team.

2. Grey Games – October-March

Teams are a minimum of 5 players. Five Disciplines although by mutual agreement one can be omitted.
1. Carpet Putting: 3 players, 1 game each, 5 putts each from 3 different positions – 6/9/12 feet.

2. Snooker or pool: 3 Players, 1 game each. If snooker, 1 full frame. If pool best of 3 frames.
3. Dominoes (up to double 6): 3 players, 1 game each. 8 dominoes per player. Each game best of 9 ends.

4. Carpet Bowls (or on a snooker table): 3 players, 1 game each with 4 balls per player. All nearest ball to jack counts one point. Each game best of 9 ends.

5. Darts: 3 players, 1 game each. Each game best of 3. 501 up, ending on a double. More than five players in a team may take part but each player may represent their team in no more than 3 disciplines.
One point will be awarded for winning each discipline, i.e. there are FIVE points to be gained. The team with the highest number of points of the 5 is the winner.

3. Table Tennis – November-April

Teams of 3 players. 9 single matches (i.e. each player plays each other)
Each match to be the best of 5 games (max 45 games). Each game is first to 11 and 2 clear points. Score on every point. Server has TWO serves before swapping. Winning team is the one with the most winning matches of 9.

4. Snooker – January-May

Teams of 5 or 6 players. 3 singles and 2 doubles – 5 games. One or two players play a single and a double game (not 2 singles). One frame per game. Winner of most games wins.

5. Bowls – April-September

Flat or Crown Green. The Semis & the Final may be played twice – home and away. Indoor or outdoor.
Teams of 7 players, 3 singles and 2 doubles (5 games), but teams of 6 or 5 players can be accommodated as follows:

If one team has 7 players and the other 6, 2 doubles and 2 singles should be played. The team with 7 players will receive a walkover in the (unplayed) singles game. If one team has 7 players and the other 5, 3 singles and 1 double should be played. The team with 7 players will receive a walkover in the (unplayed) doubles game. The team winning most games wins. Each game is first to 21. Nearest ball(s) to jack get 1 point. In doubles, the winning team of the previous end leads off, opponent plays, then each play second ball, then the other two players bowl in turn.

The match can also go ahead if both teams have 6 or 5 players each, or one has 6 and one has 5. Rules for such games are available from the District Sports Officer, but it makes life a lot easier if each club can raise 7 players so please try to do this if possible.

If both teams have 6 players it is suggested that 2 doubles and 2 singles are played. If this results in a tie, the team with the most number of cumulative points wins.
If both teams have 5 players it is suggested that 1 double and 3 singles are played, but if this results in a tie, the team with the most number of cumulative points wins. An alternative is to play 2 doubles and 1 single. The team captains should agree on the preferred format prior to the match.

7. Golf – Wednesday 16th September 2015– Garstang Golf Club – first tee 10.30 am

Teams of 3 players - maybe from more than one club. £75 per team. Tee-off times from 10.30am. Prizes for winning, as well as two hole prizes. Refreshments available.
