Canoeing for All

Bendrigg Lodge

The Bendrigg Lodge fleet of 12 Grumman canoes is now 20 years old and have had significant use. Canoeing is one of their most popular activities. It is low impact and enables people of all abilities, including those with physical disabilities, to experience open water. Individuals can participate as much or as little as they would like to – whether that’s actively paddling or just relaxing and enjoying the motion of the water. “The canoeing was a highlight”, “The canoeing was amazing” are regular features of the feedback.

Every year approximately 3,000 disabled visitors are welcomed to Bendrigg Lodge, the majority of whom participate in canoeing activities. Over 15 years (expected canoe lifetime is 15-20 years), the new fleet could support up to 45,000 participants to access the wonderful benefits of canoeing.

To support Bendrigg Lodge in their wish to replace this fleet of Grumman canoes the Rotary Club of Kendal donated £2000 and we are pleased to report that, with the support of many other local organisations, the canoes have now been received and after some modification will soon be launched.
