Musical students shared their talents at a competition in Cockermouth - with a brother and sister picking up two of the three trophies. The Rotary club of Cockermouth held its annual contest at Cockermouth School's eco centre.
The school also held a Rotary composition competition on the same evening, with participants submitting an original piece between three and five minutes in length. Organiser and lead judge Richard Bennett used to be head of music at the school. He said: "The standard was high and the competition fierce." The winner of the instrumental competition was Sam Weakley, who gave a spirited performance of The Teddy Bears' Picnic on the bassoon. Second was cornet player Billy John. The winner of the vocal competition was Jenny Weakley who sang Taylor the Latte Boy. Runner up was Laura Cousins.
"Jenny had a convincing tone, musicianship and great feeling for the comic element of the song," said Mr Bennett.
"A close second was Laura Cousins who sang a demanding programme with maturity."
Kinnaird Bragg was named young composer. His composition, called I Think it Worked, was for string ensemble.
The four vocal and instrumental prize winners will take part in the Rotary district competition.
