St John's Hospice

Yesterday evening, Jorj, from St John’s Hospice told us about the care & compassion they provide for any end-of-life patients and their families.
The Hospice covers the areas from Grasmere to Garstang, Morecambe to Sedbergh and has holistic packages for all. There are 13 beds, which cover 20% of the service they provide, with the other 80% being Hospice at Home, caring for people in their own homes.
It costs £7.4 million per year to run the Hospice, that’s £602 per hour, 25% of this is via the NHS, the remaining 75% is raised through a wide range of activities. These include the Midnight Walk on 13th June 2026, the Summer Serenade on 27th June 2026, funds form their 10 charity shops, gifts in wills, Tea parties and many other enterprising fund-raising activities. The Hospice is set in beautiful grounds in Slyne (Lancaster) has a wonderful café and gift shop where everyone is welcome.
The Forget Me Not Centre, opened 4 years ago, offers various therapies for individuals and families.
The next major project is replacing the roof, which has leaked since it was originally built, with a more practical one.

President Kath, Town Council Clerk, Bob Bailey and President Elect, George Wilson, presented Jorj with a cheque with money raised from an Easter raffle (Carnforth Rotary) and the Easter Monday Fun Day at the Civic Hall Carnforth.
