Young Chef Local Level

Venue: Carnforth High School

On Friday 6th Feb 2026, there was a hive of activity in the Food Technology department at Carnforth High School. Five students, three boys and two girls from Years 9, 10 and 11 took part in the local heat of the Rotary Young Chef Competition.

Rotary Youth Lead, Anthony Chick arranged the event, with Chef Anthony Dunbar from Lancaster Golf Club as judge.

Two Carnforth Rotarians went along in support of the event and of course, to taste the results.

The competitors, who were cool, calm and collected were allowed 2 hours to show off their amazing cooking skills, which they managed with ease.

Jennifer, who came first and will go on to the District Competition, made

vegetarian chilli with homemade tortillas, followed by apple crumble + homemade ice cream.

Ethan came second with his sweet n sour chicken, in home-made sauce, and rice stack followed by apple crumble and cream.

The runners up were Haydon with spaghetti bolognese followed by fresh fruit salad, Jack with chicken and bacon risotto followed by a no bake Strawberry cheesecake. Finally, Jess who made Lemon herb chicken with carrots and potatoes, followed by a mango and lime cheesecake, decorated with spun sugar.

All the food was created and displayed to a very high standard and was extremely delicious.

Congratulations to everyone and many thanks to Carnforth High School, especially Miss Rowland who took the challenge on board.
