Greenhouse Effect

Roger Carradice

On Thursday evening, Carnforth rotarian Roger Carradice, explained how the Sun radiates short wave radiation that we can see, and the earth reflects long wave back that we cannot see.  We learnt that the main Greenhouse gases are Water vapour, Carbon Dioxide and Methane
He also explained that the earth goes through a cycle of temperature changes that may be seen on average every 600 years and current thoughts on relatively recent temperature changes are not actually proven.
The questions were varied and interesting, in that members had previously had different perceptions of the cause of world temperature increases and how one change can make a difference to the power of four.
