Jeremy Howard
Carnforth Rotarian Jeremy Howard, told us how, during Covid, he taught 4 children from Redhill, an Informal Settlement near Capetown S. Africa how to use a camera. The cameras were lent to them by local businesses and 2 were left at the library for others to borrow. They also provided 3 prizes and certificates for all participants.
The 3 boys and 1 girl aged between 13 and 17 were very interested in using the equipment and were taught about aperture, shutter speed, light sensitivity and composition over a six week period.
During their 2 hour weekly lesson, they took photos of a variety of subjects including landscapes, close-ups and movement.
The winner was presented with a camera and wanted to take his experience further as a designer. One of the boys wanted to become a wedding photographer.
