A Busy Evening

Youth Speaks, DG Visit and Poppy Making

On Thursday 7th November, our members supported the two teams from Carnforth High School when they came to a rehearsal of their debates for the forthcoming Rotary competition in Kendal. We heard well argued debates on the topics of 'Schools need funding for the arts' and 'Society needs superheroes'. Each team was given much praise and helpful comments by the guest judge for the evening, Susan Wilson.
District Governor Kath Robinson was with us and brought greetings from Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick. Kath told us she had made 60 visits to clubs in our district. She said that some clubs were becoming more flexible and informal in the arrangements for their meetings. Many of the clubs were actively engaged in their communities, raising the awareness and appreciation of Rotary as an organisation of local people. She asked members to always wear their Rotary badge to let people know 'who we are'.

With the guidance and patience of Club Secretary, Linda Lambson, we were given the task of making paper poppies to decorate the Carnforth Civic Hall. An evening full of fun and laughter, well done all. Our efforts added to the large number Linda had already made.
