Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

The speakers at our meeting on Thursday 6th June were Kelly and India representing their SEND DEN project. Kelly worked for 13 years at Bleasdale House in Silverdale and is currently a SEND Support worker in the community. India is a child minder experienced in dealing with babies and toddlers. They described their aim to establish in our area a multi-sensory centre for children and adults with disabilities. The nearest such centre is at Preston and often fully booked. In Lancashire there are 23,000 children with special needs and disabilities who need a centre where there are suitable facilities to provide, for example, sensory stimulation, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy. Their inspiring mission statement clearly states the needs -  “ Our mission is clear: to provide a haven where children of all abilities can play, relax, socialize, and learn, while offering parents and caregivers the peace of mind that their loved ones are in a secure and nurturing setting.” Currently they are seeking a suitable building to begin this venture and have a grant application ongoing.
The members asked a good number of questions and wished them success in achieving their worthy ambition.
They have a crowd funding appeal at
