Carnforth Rotary presented Sheila Jones, a retired Early Years teacher, with a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of her involvement with the Tuesday Lunch Club. Many years ago, it was run by Age Concern, however, when their involvement ceased Sheila took over the responsibility for it, with support from others as needed.
Sheila has great love and care for all the members, organising birthday cards and collecting some members who need transport. Her involvement is unconditional and nothing is too much trouble. If a long-standing member is not well she will often visit and take flowers or a small gift.
During lockdown she telephoned all the members every week to have a chat and make sure they were ok, and on Valentine’s Day she delivered a little box of chocolates from funds to each member.
She organises the Christmas lunch with entertainment and every week tries to involve members with a quiz or fun puzzle. There used to be a raffle each week with the funds collected providing a trip out somewhere or afternoon tea at the local garden centre. Sheila never forgot to bring the prize which was paid for from the kitty and she organised all aspects of the trips out including bookings, negotiating the price and transport.
A truly remarkable person, well deserving of a Paul Harris Fellow.
