North West Cancer Research

An insight into education about healthy living

On the 30th March, Charlotte Ellwood of North West Cancer Research gave an inspirational talk on hoe the independent charity is dedicated to putting the region's cancer needs first through life saving research and education.

Since year 2000, £40 million has been spent in life saving research discovering new ways to diagnose, treat and prevent the disease. Research is being carried out to tackle the cause and improve the care and outcomes for people with cancer. An important aspect of the work is educating people to understand their bodies, identify symptoms and seek early medical help.
Working in schools on a Lab Coat Learning Project, Charlotte engages the pupils helping them to understand how their body works through demonstrations and learning about healthy diet. The intention is to encourage the children to become health ambassadors to their family members.
Medical records are now being used to produce an interactive post code map, showing the different level of cancers occurring in our area from Morecambe to Barrow.
