Lytham St.Annes Classical Association held a Roman Day at AKS on Saturday 23rd September, members of Blackpool Palatine Rotary, Diane Glister, Margaret Moussardis & Sue Rooker volunteered their services for the day.
Author Caroline Lawrence gave talks about 'Exposing Facts About Ancient Rome' & 'Archaeology & Greative Writing' alongside a talk by Gary Thornton ' The Romans in the Fylde' & a lecture ' Winning Freedom in Pompeii & Herculaneum' by Professor Wallace - Hadrill.
Those attending had to pass the opposing Gladiator stationed at the entrance, there were many stalls present Book, Tombola, Raffle & an overloaded Cake table.
Once the delights found inside were sampled visitors made their way to the Sunken Garden outside. Children were able to make their own Helmets, Masks, Shields & Swords at the various Craft Workshops. Talk with Lune Valley Detectorists Author Graham Sumner, Ribchester Museum, buy numerous plants & sample the freshly cooked Pizza on offer.
All monies raised on the day go towards a Summer Student Bursary.
