There was a good turnout for a moving dedication and memorial service on Veterans Walk today.
The ceremony, organised to coincide with Remembrance Weekend, was to dedicate 12 plaques beneath oak trees planted along the walk.
The trees and plaques have been donated by Friends of Stanley Park - Blackpool and Rotary Club of Palatine in honour of the work of emergency services and community service organisations.
Representatives of the services involved unveiled plaques. the services honoured were : Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade, RNLI Lifeboats, Air Ambulance, HM Coastguard, Scouts, Guides, Red Cross, St John Ambulance, Salvation Army and, because of the number of dogs walked in the park, the Royal Army Veterinary Services.
There were speeches from Lancashire Deputy Lieutenant John Barnett MBE; Blackpool Mayor Amy Cross; John Blackledge, Blackpool director of community and environmental services and Friends chairman, Elaine Smith MBE.
Park School Band played for the ceremony which took place on a cold, wet and windy afternoon.
Afterwards refreshments were served in the Visitor Centre.
