Overview
Rotary programmes for students and youth provides opportunities to participate in competitions in which they have a personal interest or talent.
Youth opportunities are open to ages 8-18. Entries can be through your school, youth organisation or individually.
We support 2 face-to-face competitions in which young people may participate:
• Young Chef
• Young Musician
1) Young Chef:
We believe it is important to encourage and develop creativity in young people and that includes creativity in the kitchen. Cooking amongst young people is a growing interest and a valuable life skill.
Sponsored by Filippo Berio, contestants prepare and present a three-course meal within a pre-set budget and time limit, which is judged by an expert panel.
Young people learn to:
• Cook a healthy meal
• Develop food presentation skills
• Consider food hygiene issues
• Develop organisational and planning skills
• Develop ability to cope in a demanding situation
The Rotary Young Chef competition is run over the course of a school year, in two or three different heats at club level, district and regional culminating in a national final.
The competition is open to students in full time education aged 11-17.
2) Young Musician:
Music is the international language and Great Britain and Ireland is home to some of the most talented young instrumentalists and vocalists in the world.
We celebrate this talent with a sequence of competitions that offer thousands of young people the chance to demonstrate their musical skills whether classical or modern.
Young people can share their gift of song or mastery of a musical instrument in Rotary’s Young Musician competition.
Participants will get the chance to experience performing on a public stage and receive feedback from experienced judges, plus it offers a great chance for future collaboration with fellow musicians.
Entrants can be either a vocalist or instrumentalist.
The Rotary Young Musician competition is run over the course of a school year, in two or three different heats at club level, district, regional and culminating in the national final which will be held on 29 March 2025..
