Recently two local boys Harry Gallacher and Geddes Clark both from Sanquhar Academy participated in the district final of Rotary Club’s Young Chef competition held at the Dalbeattie Learning Campus on Monday 25th November 2019.
With a field of 16 entrants from across Dumfries and Galloway, Harry came a very creditable 3rd while Geddes followed closely in 5th place. Harry just closely missed out on earning himself a place in the next round for South of Scotland.
Home Economics teacher Anna McGrath along with Thornhill & District Rotary Club’s Vice President Keith Shedden accompanied the pair, who were tasked with cooking, from scratch, a two course meal for two for under £15.00 in 90 minutes.
Judge on the day local chef Tom Kirkpatrick commended the boys and went on to say that he was delighted with the quality and standard of the food and choice of menus, he also encouraged Harry and Geddes to continue cooking in the future and perhaps even professionally.
