Over the past few weeks, Thornhill's Rotary Club has been busy gathering in hundreds of books that will be part of a five-day long Big Book Bazaar in Thornhill.
Already, nearly 5000 books covering a huge range of subjects, from Astronomy and Archaeology to Zen and Zoos, with top selling writers like Archer and Attwood, Rankin, Cleves, May and Patterson have been carefully inspected and sorted.
Mike Marshall, who's been coordinating the effort, says that he's been astounded, by the offers of books: "The quality and condition of all of them is superb. Many would make excellent gifts for Christmas. There'll be something for everyone at the Bazaar - we have lots of fabulous books for youngsters - from the very young to those who are already getting passionate about reading. Gardeners, cooks and anyone with an interest in food and drink are well catered for; there's a huge variety of books covering art of all descriptions, crafts and DIY.
Biographies about sports personalities, politicians and those from the film, television and theatre worlds will be alongside travel books, music, military subjects, health and fitness will all be there, and there's a fascinating collection of Scottish titles.
"There's something for everyone, and we're really grateful to all those who've donated books - every one we sell will provide fundraising to support local community activities and projects as well as Rotary International's campaign to 'End Polio Now' - a mission to completely eradicate the disease that everyone is determined will come to fruition in the very near future.
The Big Book Bazaar runs daily from 10am to 5.30pm, Wednesday 16th to Sunday 20th October at the Thornhill Space in Drumlanrig Street, and Mike and his team of volunteers who are helping with this venture are looking forward to welcoming you.
