Recently Club President Michael Keene along with Rotarians Gordon Lawson and Mike Marshall visited one of this years competitions beneficiaries “Alzheimer Scotland’s Thornhill day care centre” were they presented leisure equipment to Anne Allison of Alzheimer Scotland Thornhill group.
The local day group and services specialise in supporting people with dementia, through therapeutic activities. They help people to maintain their skills so that they can stay independent for as long as possible and feel good about themselves. They also offer a wide range of activities, including life story work, exercise to music, painting and craft work, musical activities to name but a few.
In a letter of thanks Clare Stroyan Locality Leader, Dumfries and Galloway wrote “On behalf of myself and all the staff at the Thornhill day care, I would like to thank you for the equipment you have kindly donated. We value your support and with this saving to us we can continue to make improvements to the lives of people living with dementia and their families in the local communities”.

The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District have been hosting their annual charity golf competition for over twenty years now, which has generated over £93,000 for local charities. This years winning team was local company Allison & Hunter Oil Ltd, consisting of: M Bonn, J Martin, A Kingan and C Sloan they took the competition by three shots over second placed team Thornhill Inn.
