Thornhill Community Responds To The Victims Of Cyclone Idai

The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District’s Street Collection in Thornhill High Street Raises £1,000.00 For Victims of Cyclone Idai

Saturday 6th April 2019 The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District arranged a street collection in Thornhill to help the victims of the recent Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Cyclone Idai triggered a "massive disaster" in southern Africa affecting hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. The region had been hit by widespread flooding and devastation affecting Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

The local community responded generously as they always do when disaster strikes, on the day we collected a total of £302.71 to which the Club rounded the collection up to £500.00

As a result of securing matched funding from a campaign run by “The Big Give” we managed to donate a grand total of £1,000.00 to Water Survival Box. Their primary purpose is to provide a means of purifying water along with a range of essential survival items including cooking pots, bowls/plates, mugs, and utensils, health and hygiene items, basic shelter and simple tools, etc.

Water Survival Box is the initiative of the Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge, England. It arose following six months of continuous work after the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean during which 3,200 Aquaboxes boxes were packed with items donated by members of the public.

A huge thank you goes out to the local community for their continued support, because without it we could not come up with results like this.
