The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District proudly sponsor and put forward young musicians from schools within our area into the annual Rotary Young Musician Competition.
However due to the adverse weather conditions in November 2018 flooding Sanquhar, road and rail networks prevented Sanquhar Academy students from attending the competition held in Dumfries.
Wednesday 21st March 2019 the contestants, Alison Menzies (Music teacher from Sanquhar Academy) family and friends gave up their own personal time to visit our Rotary Club's weekly meeting at the Thornhill Inn to give our members and guests a private recital showing off their fantastic voices and musical skills.
The evenings proceedings commenced with Hayley Nisbet playing her Tenor Drum accompanied by bagpipes and drum, followed by a lovely vocal from Rachel Anderson accompanied by Alison Menzies on the keyboard, next Molly McTeir gave us two songs the first accompanied by Mrs McTeir and the second by herself on the Ukulele, the evening proceeded with Rowan Hastie preforming a cappella, Ashton Jeffery closed the evenings performance by playing two pieces on his guitar.
Judging by the comments from members and guests after the show they thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the music and vocals from the Sanquhar Academy music students, the quality and talent of these students showed throughout each of their individual performances and for that they should all be very proud of themselves.
The club would like to thank Alison for arranging the evening and all the students, family and friends for giving up their personal time to come along and visit us in Thornhill, we wish each and everyone of you all the very best in your studies and for your future (in a musical career I hope)
