Recently 132 golfers descended upon Thornhill’s Golf Course to take part in The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District’s annual Am-Am golf competition raising well in excess of £3,500.00 (Final figures to be confirmed) all in aid of local charities and causes.
Thornhill Golf Club generously gives us full use the course for the day to assist us to raise charitable funds. The event is a special day for Amateur Golfers played over the magnificent Blacknest Course which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary.
This years main beneficiaries include:
Action for Children-Upper Nithsdale family Service

Respiratory Endowment Fund
Donation of £1,000.00
Based at Dumfries Royal Infirmary the fund supports patients with respiratory disorders to help them have a better quality of life.
Thornhill Golf Club – Junior Section
Donation of £500.00
We at The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District are proud to enourage youth in the area to get involved in sports so we are honoured to include Thornhill Golf Club – Junior Section to assist the junior section under the Rotary Youth Development Scheme.
Remaining proceeds will be made availible to other local charities and good causes throghout the year.
The Master of Ceremony for the evening was Rotarian Sharon Glendinning, starting the procedure welcomed and introduced The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District’s President Liz Baxter.
President Liz Baxter introduced our charity guests, Jennifer Wells from Action for Children (Kelloholm) and Phyllis Murphie from DGRI Respiratorty Endowment Fund and presented each a cheque to the value of £1,000.00
Liz thanked Geoff Smith Captain of Thornhill Golf Club for the use of the golf course and presented Geoff with a cheque to the value of £500.00 for the Thornhill Golf Club – Junior Section.
Liz went on to thank Kevin and greenkeeping staff for the superb condition of the course, Tam, catering and bar staff for the excellent meal and service shown to us during the day. Liz thanked all the sponsors for all their generous donations and prizes.
Last but certainly not least President Liz went on to mention and give thanks to all the teams who played and gave generously which contributed to make this years event another outstanding success, “without your generousity our main local charities and other local charities and good causes would not benefit”.
This years Am-Am winners are Timber Tech Harvesting Ltd, consisting of M McKnight, G Logan, R Logan and M Crosbie with a net score of 161.
