D & G Charities Benefit from 2016 Am/Am

Two Dumfries and Galloway charities have had a welcome boost to their funds thanks to the generosity of the 140 golfers who took part in Thornhill and District Rotary’s recent am.am charity golf match held at Thornhill Golf Club.

Top-line charity the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) benefitted to the tune of £2,000, with Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes picking up a cheque for £1,000. The junior section of Thornhill Golf Club also received £500 towards the maintenance of the junior programme at the club.

President Ian Morrison of the Rotary club said ‘I am absolutely delighted that we were able to make these donations. Until my recent retirement, I had spent my entire career as an officer with the merchant navy and every day I was at sea I was very much aware of the vital service RNLI provides. Blood Bikes is a relatively new charity but all of us are aware of the sterling work they now do on our behalf.

I am most grateful to all our local golfers who stepped up to the mark and also to  our many sponsors who enabled us to mount this event.’
