Sunday 24th May 2015 Thornhill and District Rotary Club held their Annual Spring Fayre & Duck Race at The Friars Carse Hotel. This year two local charities, D & G Befriending Project & Food Train Friends were invited to join us in hosting the event, together on the day we managed to raise over £3000 of which will go a long way to helping their good causes and also Rotary charities. This year the Rotary charities that will benefit are "The Nepal Disaster Fund" and "End Polio Now"
D & G Befriending Project, A local charity, set up in 1997. The main objective is to recruit, train and match adult volunteers with vulnerable young people as a means of making a positive difference in the young person’s life. The Project offers young people experiencing problems at home, school or in the community, the opportunity of extra support and regular positive adult attention. Having and working with a befriender can help the young person tackle difficulties before they get too big. The young people benefit from the energy and enthusiasm of their befrienders and gain confidence from forming a positive relationship with a supportive adult.
