The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District recently held an International Evening at Thornhills Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel. Guests for the evening were four post graduate students studying at the Dumfries Campus of the University of Glasgow. The students were from Azerbaijan, Lithuania and Germany. All four students, accompanied by Professor David Clark, Director of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, gave a short presentation about their home country and their studies in Dumfries.
While their studies were mainly in the fields of international culture, heritage and the environment, understanding local accents and coping with the often miserable South West Scotland weather were almost daily challenges for the young students.
The evening was organised by Rotarians Robin McClelland and Gordon Steele.
In his vote of thanks, Rotarian Andy McKay commented Our visiting students are clearly very happy to be studying here in Scotland. I see that there are Rotary Clubs in your home cities and I would encourage you to visit them and take back the greetings of the Thornhill Club.
