The Dumfries and Galloway area finals of the District 1020 Rotary Young Musician of the Year Competition 2014 were recently hosted by the Rotary Club of Annan in the towns Academy.
An appreciative audience were treated to a splendid evening of music courtesy of the five young instrumentalists and six vocalists from throughout the area. The adjudicators for the evening, Mrs J Scott and Mr R Budd, had the unenviable task of selecting candidates to represent Dumfries and Galloway Rotary Clubs at the Rotary District Final to be held at Heriot Watt University on Sunday 9 March.
Winning the instrumentalist section was Wallace Hall Euphonium player Jordan Tweedie representing the Rotary Club of Thornhill and District with runner up, pianist Kieran Hunter representing the Rotary Club of Annan.
In the young vocalist section, Zak Durrock representing the Rotary Club of Dalbeattie narrowly triumphed over Chiara McMorran representing the Rotary Club of Castle Douglas.
Past District Governor Allan McLaughlin said What a great evening of entertainment we had. I am confident the four young musicians who go forward to the District final will do the South West proud at the District finals in March.
