At the first round of the District 1020 2014 Young Musicians Competition the five youngsters from Wallace Hall Academy took three of the top places.
Vocalist Lauren Dalgleish and Euphonium player Jordan Tweedie then went forward to the next round at Annan on 20th Feb.
Heather O'Connor took Second vocalist place on the night when Thornhill & District RC joined with Dumfries RC to undertake their own individual competitions and also entertain a very large audience.
Held at the Maxwellton High School a total of 12 competitors played and sung everything form Schonberg to recent pop, from well known musicals to lively piping classics.The talent on show left audicator Frank Davies with a difficult job but after a rousing interlude provided by the Max High school band and guitar group he made his choices complimenting all the players on their abilities.

Against stiff opposition Jordan won the Area Final at Annan and now goes onto Edinburgh and the District finals in March.
